Welcome from the Chair

We are pleased to announce the First International Particle Accelerator Conference, IPAC'10, to be held in Kyoto, Japan, from 23 to 28 May 2010. In 2007 the Americas, Europe, and Asia agreed to merge the three regional particle accelerator conferences, namely, PAC in North America, EPAC in Europe, and APAC in Asia into one, and create a new series of particle accelerator conferences, IPAC, from 2010. This is a great milestone for the world accelerator community and it reflects the maturity of international collaboration in the accelerator field.

Kyoto is located 500 km west of Tokyo. It was the capital of Japan for more than one thousand years (794-1868) and its name means "Capital City". Kyoto is the center of traditional Japanese culture and of Buddhism, as well as of fine textiles and other Japanese products. Several of the historic temples and gardens of Kyoto were collectively added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1994. In Kyoto, you will enjoy traditional and modern Japan simultaneously.

The venue of the IPAC'10, the Kyoto International Conference Center (KICC), is a modern, dedicated conference venue, located at the northern edge of the city and surrounded by the natural beauty of hills and a lake. Commuting from hotels located in the city center is rapid and convenient by subway. KICC is the first national conference center in Japan. In 1997 the Kyoto Protocol on reductions in greenhouse gas emissions was discussed and agreed here. With its Japanese garden along a lake, the venue provides participants with a modern environment, conducive to fruitful scientific discussions in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

The local organizers are pleased to report that a special conference bag is being produced especially for IPAC'10 participants. It is made by "Shin-zaburoh Hanp", the most famous hand-made casual bag company in Kyoto, whose products are sold exclusively at their store in Kyoto, and are very popular with young people and visitors. The bag design in five colours is very original. All participants can get one.
