Beam position monitors (BPM) were first installed at the KEK injector linac for the KEKB project. At the beggining several development approaches were performed for 1-ns width bipolar signals. Because of the resource availability oscilloscopes were employed for the resolution of 100 microns. A dual-bunch signals with only 96 ns apart had to be measured. GPIB-based oscilloscopes were read at 1 Hz (1st Generation), and later embedded-EPICS oscilloscopes were developed for pulse-to-pulse 50-Hz read-out for 100-times different charges (2nd Generation). For the SuperKEKB project dedicated circuits were developed with carefully designed filters and amplifiers for the resolution less than 10 microns even with dual bunches (3rd Generation). Approximately 100 BPMs are installed in the injector linac and another 100 BPMs are installed in the KEKB BT. Please send your comments and questions to K.Furukawa. |
